Hey Sparkles! Happy Wednesday! For today’s Wednesday Wisdom post, I am writing from the new Bible study book I will be covering called Only Jesus: A Voice that Sounds Like Home by Mark Hall.
This book basically walks through the new Casting Crowns album Only Jesus.
Chapter 1 is about staying humble, and comes from the song Nobody.
“But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.”
We are not here to be remembered. We’re here for the only name worth remembering. Only Jesus. That’s why we’re here.
The world tells us we have to be Somebody. Most of us live our lives to build a resume. We tell people who we are by sharing our job titles. We talk about making names and leaving legacies, all of it for our own benefit and glory, and wonder why it leaves our lives shallower than our graves.
All of us are tempted to chase the world’s definitions of success and meaning. God knows this, so his first instruction to us is to put no gods before him. He knows that without him the biggest god in our lives will look a lot like the image we see in the mirror.
No real hero ever sets out to be to be one. Not only was it not their goal, but the thought probably never entered their minds because most heroic actions involve life-changing pain or danger.
All the kingdoms built, all the trophies won, will crumble into dust when it’s all said and done. All that truly matters is how well we show Jesus to the world.
