Youth Leadership Henry Education Day
Hey Sparkles! Happy Friday! For today’s blog post, I am writing about education day, one of the program days for Youth Leadership Henry.
Youth Leadership Henry is a program for sophmores in Henry County, and offers a chance for leadership-minded teens to see behind-the-scenes in the different vital roles in the community. We have done team-building activities, learned about our strengths and weaknesses, seen how public safety works, and, most recently, seen the public school system.
Education Day as part of Youth Leadership Henry was both fun and informative. We were able to hear from the Henry County superintendent and see for ourselves how truly passionate the school board members are about quality public education. They are all about giving students more opportunities to succeed in life.
The most fun part of the day was when we did the “Life 101” activity, where we were given an occupation and degree, and had to live out our lives, paying back student loans, buying a house and car, paying for doctor’s visits, and even preparing for life’s unexpected surprises. In doing this activity, we had to learn how to make a budget and not extravagantly spend beyond our means. I am happy to say that I made it out with plenty of money to spare. Some of my other classmates were not quite so fortunate.
I also enjoyed hearing from Ms. Lydia and Ms. Laura about personal branding. Every teenager needs to be told how to present themselves in public, or at a job interview, or just walking into a room. Did you know that first impressions are formed about people within the first few seconds of seeing a person? That is why it is always so important to look presentable, because you never know who might be watching.
Touring the different college campuses was extremely informative, because we got to see for ourselves what the classrooms look like. We also heard from the professors their life passions.
All in all, it was an exciting day, and I would recommend Youth Leadership Henry to all teens who want to lead in some way.
Well, that’s all for today, Sparkles. If you are interested at all in Youth Leadership Henry, you should go check them out. Thanks for reading, and Sparkles away!
