Encountering God Bible Study Chapter 8
Hey Sparkles! Happy Wednesday! For today’s Wednesday Wisdom post, I will be hitting the highlights of chapter 8 in Encountering God: A Study in Psalms. However, if you want to dig in deeper, then I highly recommend buying the book on Amazon here.
The title of Psalm 100, “A Psalm of Praise,” is unique. No other Psalm begins this way. Therefore, Psalm 100 reveals a special emphasis on God’s people.
Psalm 100 serves to instruct us in the art and the heart of worshipping God. The focus of our worship according to Psalm 100 is the Lord Himself. We are to come into his presence for His sake alone. Worship is not about us. Worship is not a means to an end. It is an end in itself. It’s all about God! We will never get “church” right if we don’t get worship right. The church gets off track when worship is no longer the engine that drives it.
So how do we appropriately worship God? The author gives seven divine imperatives that direct our approach to God in worship.
“Make a joyful noise to the Lord , all the earth!”
“Serve the Lord with gladness!”
“Come into his presence with singing!”
“Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise!”
Give Thanks and Praise
“Give thanks to him; bless his name!”
“For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.”
We can trust in the Lord’s goodness, love, and faithfulness. Well, that’s all for today, Sparkles. Be sure to go back and read chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 of Encountering God: A Study in Psalms. Thanks for reading, and Sparkles away!
