First Fire Escape Patented

Hey Sparkles! Happy Monday! For today’s Monday Moment blog post, I am posting about the first fire escape being patented.

It was patented 253 years ago today, in 1766. The first fire escape was actually just a wicker basket on a rope with a pulley. I’m not sure how this system was supposed to be safe from fires, because both wicker baskets and rope are flammable.

However, I suppose going down a rope in a basket is safer than jumping from a burning building to the streets below. I wonder if any of them ever burnt while someone was in them.

Well, that’s all for today, Sparkles. What do you think is safest? Tell me in the comments below. Your comments make me happy. Thanks for reading, and Sparkles away!
