Hey Sparkles! Happy Friday! Usually, I title my blog posts with the topic or event that I am talking about, but today I decided to name it The Little Things are the Most Meaningful. After my week at Gardner Webb University, I feel like that is the best way to sum it up.
I’ll start with why I was at Gardner Webb University for a week. I went for the Honors Experience 2020. A group of 25 other high school students and I were allowed to spend a week assimilating into college life by taking classes, sleeping in the dorms, and eating in the cafeteria. My classes were Forensic Science and Psychology.
In Forensic Science, or Bones, Bodies, and Bugs, as the class was called, we learned about just that: Bones, Bodies, and Bugs. One of the days, we identified the bodies of the victims. Another day, we studied the life cycles of various fly species to find out a rough time of death. Did you know? Maggots have faces, and they’re creepy. This was when I began to realize how little things like bugs can make a big difference. It was because of these discoveries, and the fingerprints on weapons inside the crime scene, that we discovered the identity of the killers. As it turned out, I was one of the murderers.
Fatal Attractions was the name of my Psychology class because we talked about love and relationships. We learned about attachment styles and the way people interact with each other based on their birth order.
However, my favorite part of the whole camp was when we were able to go and do a service project. That was when the true bonding occurred and we got to see how much the little things truly do matter to people. In the grand scheme of things, painting the outside of a house doesn’t mean that much, but to Ms. Felicia, it meant everything. It was the same way at the children’s home, where we deep-cleaned windows, bathrooms, and surfaces. The smiles on those children’s faces showed us how they were touched by the little things we did for them.
Well, that’s all I have for today, Sparkles. I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I enjoyed writing it. Always remember that the little things count, and smiles are everything. Thanks for reading, and Sparkles away!
