NASA Invented and The Artemis Project

Hey Sparkles! Happy Monday! For today’s Monday Moment post, I am writing about President Eisenhower signing NASA into effect.

In case you didn’t know, NASA stands for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is an independent agency of the United States Federal Government responsible for the civilian space program, as well as aeronautics and aerospace research. NASA was established in 1958, succeeding the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics.

Did you know? They are going back to the moon! NASA is calling this mission Artemis, after the twin sister of Apollo in Greek mythology.

The Artemis program is an ongoing crewed spaceflight program carried out by NASA, U.S. commercial spaceflight companies, and international partners such as ESA, with the goal of landing ”the first woman and the next man” on the lunar south pole region by 2024.

Of course, the end goal of Artemis is not the moon. They are merely using that as a launchpad to Mars.

I think this is very exciting. My younger sister Victoria (who is 5) wants to be an astronaut when she grows up, and now, she will be able to have that opportunity if she wants. I for one would love for my sister to go to Mars. She might even get famous, and I can say ”I knew her when…”

If she were to decide that was a path she wanted to take, she can start being a NASA intern when she gets into high school. That will be in the 2028-2029 school year that she will go into 9th grade. She might even be the first woman on Mars! That would be really awesome!

If you are a kid who likes learning about space, NASA has a Kids Club. You can go to the website here.

Well, that’s all for today, Sparkles. Thanks for reading, and Sparkles away!
