Setting the Stage Summer Theater Day Camp is a complete two-week theater experience. Participants will get to write skits, sing, and dance to Broadway songs, learn basic theater skills, wear stage makeup, and play fun theater games.
For the first week of camp, students will learn how to write skits, using characters, props, and makeup. They will also learn how to have a mock audition.
For the audition on the first Friday of camp, students will be expected to memorize a hand-picked monologue, sing 32 bars of a song, and dance a portion of a Broadway song they will have learned during the week.
The second week of the camp will be Tech Week Intensive. Students will be rehearsing their skits, as well as three Broadway songs that will be choreographed. They will also be playing fun theater games. The final parent performance will be on the second Friday of camp.
Final Performance Details:
The final performance will be on the last Friday of camp, either May 24 or July 19, at 3:00 pm. The students will be wearing their Setting the Stage Summer Camp t-shirt along with a pair of jeans or jeggings (no holes please.) They will also be wearing light stage makeup. The entire performance will be about 1 hour long and will include original skits written by the students, and three Broadway songs.
The camp will take place from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm the first Monday – Thursday, on July 8 – 11, and from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on July 12 for the audition day and from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on July 15 – 19. Drop-off begins at 8:30 am (For the first week, drop-off begins at 11:30 am) and students MUST be picked up no later than 3:15 pm.
On the final day of camp, parents will be asked to stay for the performance.
Any musical theater-lover age 9 – 15 may attend the camp, provided they are comfortable with reading, writing, singing, dancing, and memorizing lines. This camp is great for those with any level of theater experience to enjoy. Although there is an “audition” on the first Friday, all students will have one or more parts to perform in the final performance.
Students are asked to bring:
- Their own sack lunch (No peanut butter, please. Also, not required for the first week, as they should eat lunch before arrival.)
- Water bottles
- Comfortable, modest clothing to dance and move around in
The cost of the two-week camp is $150, which includes everything the student will need, including a special Setting the Stage Theater Summer Camp t-shirt, which will be printed with the students’ names on it.
