UglyDolls Movie Review

Hey Sparkles! Happy Family Friday! Another week of quarantine has completed. We’re just taking it one week at a time. Today’s post is about one of the children’s movies I have seen and enjoyed, UglyDolls.

UglyDolls came out in the summer of last year, and I saw it in the regular theatres with my grandmother. Overall, the movie was pretty good. At first, I thought, Ugly Dolls? What kind of title is that for a movie? But it was a really sweet movie.

It starts with Moxy, an adorably ugly pink doll, living in Uglyville. She enjoys her life but is always wondering what else is out there. So she decides to go on an adventure, to find the love of a child. Moxy takes her UglyDoll Friends with her.

Moxy and her friends find a village called Perfection, where dolls are trained to become toys for children. The training doll, Lou, hates the UglyDolls immediately, and !SPOILER ALERT! we find out that Lou and the mayor of UglyVille were friends and Lou was jealous, so he kicked all the UglyDolls out of Perfection.

Eventually, Moxy, her crew, Lou, and the citizens of Perfection discover the true value of friendship and love. They open the gates and let the UglyDolls come into Perfection, and back and forth from the human world.

The soundtrack is amazing, especially the songs All Dolled Up (About how we make ourselves look pretty for society so they won’t judge us, but it’s not who we are), Broken and Beautiful (“Can someone just hold me? Don’t fix me, don’t try to change a thing about me. Can someone just hold me? Cause underneath I’m broken and it’s beautiful”), Unbreakable (About having inner strength and not caring what lies the naysayers try to put into your head), and Girl in the Mirror (Being happy with yourself).

Well, that’s all for today, Sparkles. I definitely recommend the soundtrack, and if you can stand the weirdness of the dolls, rewatch the movie. They even have UglyDolls Merchandise. Thanks for reading, and Sparkles away!!!
